Online lead generation and nurturing campaigns are Internet marketing strateegies that  generate information about prospective consumers interested or inquiring into a business’ products or services through the Internet.

Leads can be generated for a variety of purposes including:

  • list building
  • e-newsletter list acquisition
  • building out reward programs, loyalty programs
  • or for other member acquisition programs

An online lead usually is input by a prospective customer who is interested in a specific product or service and may include:

  • consumer contact information
  • name
  • email
  • company web address
  • other demographic information

Marketing Qualified Leads:

Marketing Leads are brand-specific leads generated by a unique advertiser offer. Because transparency is a necessary requisite for generating marketing leads, marketing lead campaigns can be optimized by mapping leads to their sources.   Marketing Qualified Leads (MQL’s) are prospects that have indicated interest in your company’s products or services by doing something such as downloading a white paper, attending a webinar or seminar, giving you their cards during a trade show, etc. In other words, they have shown some interest, but you don’t really know if they are qualified to purchase your products or services yet.In other words, these are not yet ready to be passed on to Sales until they are better qualified.

Sales Qualified Leads:

Sales leads are typically followed up through phone calls by the sales force. Sales leads are commonly found in the mortgage, insurance and finance leads.  Qualified sales leads are characterized by several different variables. Most important, of course, is an expressed interest in your product. But that is not the only factor. The lead must also be prepared to buy your product, and more to the point, must have the financial means to purchase it. And when searching for leads there is the factor of time: if that lead is ready to buy your product, that means he or she could be ready to buy a similar product. The older your leads, the less likely that they are leads anymore.
